Stop Fighting Reality
Sep 21, 2025
If you’re honest with yourself, most of your daily energy is spent trying to make reality line up with your personal preferences.
You want the deal to close the way you imagined.
You want the client to behave the way you think they should.
You want the market to perform the way that makes your life easier.
And when those things don’t happen, you feel frustrated, anxious, or defeated.
The problem isn’t that life is unfair.
The problem is that you’re fighting a battle you can’t win.
The Battle Against Reality
When you try to bend the universe to your preferences, you’re stepping into a fight that has only one outcome: failure.
Sure, every once in a while things may line up exactly the way you want. A client says yes without hesitation. The market swings in your favor. The timing feels perfect.
But let’s be clear: that’s not because you controlled it. That’s not mastery. That’s coincidence. And it’s always temporary.
The moment you think, I made this happen—life will hand you the next curveball.
Because the truth is, the universe isn’t here to serve your preferences. Life unfolds on its own terms. Your desires and aversions don’t alter its trajectory.
Why You Keep Losing This Battle
Your brain is wired for survival, and survival says: “If I can just arrange everything around me to fit what I like and avoid what I don’t like, then I’ll be okay.”
It’s why you cling. It’s why you resist. It’s why you try to force outcomes.
But here’s what you already know deep down:
- Markets don’t bend to your will.
- People don’t always behave the way you want.
- Outcomes rarely play out the way you pictured.
The result? You end up in a constant cycle of frustration, disappointment, and resistance—because you are measuring success against a standard that reality will never meet: your personal preferences.
The Coincidence Trap
Yes, sometimes things do go your way. But that only reinforces the trap.
When the universe randomly aligns with your preferences, you take credit for it and assume you can make it happen again. So you double down, trying harder to control everything.
But the moment life shifts—as it always does—you’re left with even more resistance, even more frustration, and an even deeper sense of failure.
That’s not winning. That’s surviving.
The Alternative: Surrender and Alignment
The path forward isn’t about bending life to your will—it’s about aligning yourself to life as it is.
Instead of asking, How do I get this to go my way? ask, How do I show up at my best regardless of the way it goes?
Instead of clinging to outcomes, focus on standards:
- Practicing Mindfulness—accepting the moment as it is.
- Optimizing Time—choosing what matters most.
- Cultivating Relationships—leading with trust, not transaction.
- Implementing Process—anchoring in consistency, not chaos.
- Mastering Communication—making others feel understood.
- Strategic Execution—aligning effort with high-probability activities.
This is The Performance Six. This is where freedom is found.
Because the moment you stop needing life to match your preferences, you stop losing the battle you can’t win.
The Real Win
When you release the need for reality to obey you, something unexpected happens: you actually win more.
You win clarity.
You win peace.
You win the ability to thrive in any circumstance.
The market doesn’t control you anymore.
The client doesn’t control you anymore.
Your preferences don’t control you anymore.
And suddenly, you’re not surviving—you’re mastering.
The truth is simple: the universe doesn’t bend to your preferences. It never has. It never will. And the sooner you stop fighting that battle, the sooner you can start playing the only game worth playing: showing up at your best in the reality that’s already here.
